The San Clemente Patch reported recently that the City of San Clemente has approved a plan to waive hundreds of dollars in fees to entice mobile carriers to install backup generators. The move seeks 
to insure that cell phone towers continue to operate in case of power outages like the one that affected a large area of Southern California recently.
”The city uses cell phones extensively, and many people don’t have land lines,” said San Clemente Councilman Jim Dahl. According to the Patch article many service providers use only batteries, with a few hours of life, to back up cell antennas during a power outage or emergency.
